The purpose of dry eye syndrome treatment is both to alleviate the symptoms and to remove the underlying cause in order to enable normal tear secretion and to restore the tear film’s natural protection capabilities. External causes of dry eye syndrome can, in some cases, be quickly eliminated by, for example, removing the contact lenses. The symptoms can then be treated with appropriate medication. Eliminating internal causes of dry eye, on the other hand, is significantly more complicated, since these are the result of multifaceted processes within the body
or are symptoms that may be triggered by various different factors. In such cases, artificial tears can only provide rapid alleviation of symptoms by moistening the surface of the eye. However, they cannot fight the underlying cause of the inflammatory process. Most
recent findings, however, demonstrate a positive effect of diet and specific micronutrients on the inflammatory process and thus on the quality and quantity of the tear film.
Ocuvite® Dry Eye is specifically formulated for dry eyes. Its composition is based on current research findings. The optimal combined omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil (approx. 30% EPA and 20% DHA) as well as the omega-6 fatty acid (gamma linolenic acid) from borage oil is converted by the body in part to anti-inflammatory messengers and can reduce inflammation associated with dry eye symptoms. In addition, they can help promote tear production. The vitamins C, E, B6 and the trace element zinc specifically activate
these processes via enzymes. Vitamin B12 additionally supports new cell formation.
